Why doesn't Van Der Valk have any two-bedroom homes in Inverness?

Because of what the housing stock in this part of Citrus County actually is. These are single-family pool homes in residential neighbourhoods, and they were built for families, so three and four bedrooms is the normal size. Our Inverness portfolio starts at three bedrooms sleeping six. If you're a party of four, a three-bedroom is still the right shape of house for you, and the spare room usually ends up holding the luggage and the beach gear.

Is there much point coming to Inverness if we don't cycle or swim?

Yes, though the town is quiet and that's part of the appeal. Inverness has a historic downtown, lakes and waterfront parks, and Fort Cooper State Park sits right on the edge of town for walking and wildlife. Crystal River and the springs are west of here for manatees, there's golf in the area, and fresh seafood is easy to find. What Inverness doesn't have is nightlife, so if that's what you're after, plan on driving.

How many cars can we bring?

Most of our Inverness homes allow a maximum of three cars per reservation, including Villa S&G, Villa Lovie, Villa Boer and Villa Willow Wood. If your group is arriving in four vehicles, talk to us before booking so we can work out the parking.

Can we add pool heating for just one night of our stay?

Generally no. Pool heating on these homes carries a minimum-nights requirement, typically two or three nights depending on the house, and it's charged per day. Hot tubs are usually more flexible and can often be heated on a daily basis. The exact terms vary by property, so ask us to confirm for the specific home and dates you're considering.

Good news: we have two of them. Villa Prins and Villa Bettina are both two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes in Inverness, each sleeping four. If it's just the two of you, or two couples, either one is the right size. No paying for rooms you won't use.

Villa Prins

Villa Prins at 1317 Timucuan has two spacious primary bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. Two couples travelling together won't have to share a bathroom or negotiate over the mirror. The house is in a quiet residential neighbourhood in Inverness, close to the Withlacoochee State Trail. If cycling is part of the plan, this is a practical base for it.

Villa Bettina

Villa Bettina is also two bedrooms and two bathrooms, sleeping four. It's a Florida vacation home in the same Inverness area, with the same easy access to the trail and the town. If Villa Prins is taken on your dates, Villa Bettina is the natural alternative, and the two are close enough in size and setup that the choice often comes down to availability.

If your group is bigger than four

Our three-bedroom homes in Inverness sleep six and all have a private pool. They're worth knowing about if the headcount grows, or if a pool is non-negotiable.

Villa Havelaar has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a pool deck with room for everyone outside at once. The kitchen has a full range, dishwasher, blender and baking sheet. Quick access to the Withlacoochee trail.

Villa Corthouts is in Inverness Villages, right next to the trail. Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, private pool. The one to pick if bikes are the reason you're coming.

Villa Boer has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a pool and a jacuzzi, and carries the highest guest scores in the Inverness group across nearly fifty reviews. There's a dedicated workspace inside and the trail is moments away.

What you'll find in the kitchen when you walk in

We stock the homes rather than leaving you a bare counter and a welcome note. Fresh linens, towels and washcloths, kitchen towels, travel-sized toiletries, laundry detergent pods, dish detergent, trash bags, cleaning rags. Dinnerware, pots and pans, baking sheets, utensils. Coffee maker, and the first morning's coffee, so nobody has to find a shop before anyone is human.

It sounds like housekeeping trivia until you've landed late with children asleep in the back of the car. The practical effect is that your first grocery run is about food, not about discovering the house has no trash bags.

Pool heating in winter

Florida water is not automatically warm water in January. Pool heating is an optional extra on most of our homes, charged per day, usually with a minimum number of nights attached, and the terms differ house to house. If you're travelling between late autumn and early spring and the pool is the reason you're coming, ask us to confirm the heating arrangement for your dates before you book. It's the single most common thing guests wish they'd asked about first.

Where these houses put you

Inverness is the old-Florida kind of town: a historic downtown, lakes, waterfront parks, and the Withlacoochee State Trail running through. It's a long, flat, paved rail trail, and both Villa Prins and Villa Bettina sit within easy reach of it.

West of here the land runs toward Crystal River and the springs, which is manatee country. Fort Cooper State Park is on the edge of Inverness itself for morning walks and wildlife. Golf, local dining and fresh seafood are all within a normal day's orbit. Tampa is about seventy miles south.

Bikes and the trail: Either works. Villa Prins is close to the trailhead.
